Merging contemporary design elements with old world storytelling.

As a tattoo artist, I bring a unique perspective to my craft, having honed my artistic skills and knowledge as a freelance painter and portraiture artist. My focus is on heritage designs and ancestral stories, which I bring to life through realism and contemporary tatau/tattoos. Let me help you tell your story through a one-of-a-kind design.

About Me

I'm Liberty Tatafu Blanchette. I'm a modern artist with a passion for human history. I strive to merge classicism and innovation with respect to cultural customs. With 20 years of fine art experience and an apprenticeship with the renowned Isaiah Dela Pena at Xodus Tattoo Shop, I'm equipped with the expertise necessary to articulate your ideas into beautiful and unique body art. It's my goal to provide a positive experience and environment for those who choose to share my mana to receive their markings. I am grateful for every opportunity to do this work.

WHAT IS TATAU?

Tatau is a word used throughout Polynesia, varying in pronunciation and spelling from Island Nation to Island Nation.

Tatau is the origin of the word Tattoo. It represents the repetitive tapping sound made during the traditional tattooing process in which a wooden dowel is used to tap another dowel affixed with a serrated comb. With each strike the serrated comb pierces and marks the skin with ink. Many Island Nations lost or abandoned these traditions of receiving and wearing tatau due to colonization or acculturation.

This is my north star, my purpose for joining the modern tattoo industry. I set out to reclaim the practice of wearing our heritage motifs on our skin in the modern world.

“Liberty does amazing work! If you're thinking about getting a tattoo definitely book with her!"
